Dear XMM help desk,

I am studying the Intra-cluster medium (ICM) in the cluster of galaxies with
XMM-Newton, and using the SAS software to analyze the data on Ubunts Linux OS. 

When I detected point-like sources in the ICM using the "cheese" of the ESAS
software , some differences have been found between the SAS version 15 and 17. 
A number of the detected sources using version 15 is much larger than that using
the version 17 with the exactly same threshold and parameters. The differences
include not only the flickering pixels but also the astronomical objects such as
the fainter QSO and galaxies. 
Followings are the commands I used in SASv17 and 15.
~$ cheese prefixm="1S001 2S002" prefixp=S003 scale=0.25 rate=0.001 dist=0
clobber=1 elow=400 ehigh=2300

Because there was a difference in the parameters of the command executed in the
cheese command of v15 and 17, I used the exact same parameter as v15 in v17.
But, I could't detect same point-like sources as v15.

Dear Risa,

I would advice you to use SASv17 as there were some changes to cheese in
SASv16.
If you want to find the source of the discrepancies, the log files of cheese run

under SASv15 and SASv17 might give you some indication of what has changed in
other 
parameters which are not controlled via input parameters of cheese and that
could 
have an effect in source detection. Nevertheless, you should be using SASv17.
