Hi!

I began to use the new version of SAS (SAS vs 11.0)
It says that we can analyze the PN data easily, but while using
epchain it is not creating "pnS003-clean-oot.fits". So it gives errors
in the following sections, for example while creating a spectra.
What should I do to create pnS003-clean-oot.fits file?

Thanks

Dear Ozden Sengul,

We will need somewhat more information from you in order to start our analysis
and to allow us narrowing down the problem:

Please perform the below listed commands and send us the *.log files.

sasversion >& mysassetup.log
env >>& mysassetup.log
epchain -V 5 >& epchain.log

I sent the information below. But I have to add that pnS003_oot.fits
does not exist to create pnS003-clean.fits.

Why doesn't pnS003_oot.fits exist?

Dear Ozden,

thanks for your feedback and the log files:

I now also had a go at the observation ID 0402190501 that you are trying
to process:

Executing cifbuid & odfingest (see
http://xmm.esac.esa.int/sas/current/documentation/threads/sas_startup_thread.shtml)
works fine.

I then use epchain to create 1) "OoT" and 2) "normal" pn event lists:

1) epchain runbackground=N keepintermediate=raw withoutoftime=Y
=> Output event list is in file: P0402190501PNS003OOEVLI0000.FIT

2) epchain runatthkgen=N runepframes=N runbadpixfind=N runbadpix=N
=> Output event list is in file: P0402190501PNS003PIEVLI0000.FIT

All is finishing fine here and both created event lists look OK.

Can you, please, confirm that your problem remains when you do the same
analysis steps? Otherwise, please let me know the log files of the
two epchain runs.

Regards,
  Matthias

Thank you very much for the explanations.
the log files of both commands are as below.
I think I successfully created the necessary files:

Hi!

Thank you very much for the explanations...
I have another question:

I am not able to create pn-back file. Is this related to error ? I
checked the calibration files and it does not include FWC data. Is the
problem because of that?
the log file of pn-back command is as below...

wee see that the same question was send as a follow-up to the question:
Subject: mos-back
Date: Wed, 9 Feb 2011 18:05:10 +0900

I have nothing else to add to what my colleague already told you in there,
namely that an ESAS package patch is expected in the near future.

Important:
Please note that our HelpDesk is setup such that whenever we receive
a question for the first time, it gets a new ID to which we reply and your
follow-ups are then attached.
It is very important that you do not mix replies to different tickets.
Especially, you should only reply to one ticket at a time: tickets
are evtl. handled by different colleagues here and if you send the follow-up
question as followup up to several tickets and in addition as a new ticket,
you are duplicating our workload. Thansk a lot in advance for applying to this
rule.

Dear Matthias Ehle,

Sorry for my delayed reply, I had to give a break to my research because of the
situations in Japan. Fortunately, everything seems well now.
For a while, I could not follow my e-mails. I would like to ask you that could
you extract "pn-back" file successfully? Last time, you or another person said
that there will be an announcement for new pn-calibration files, but
unfortunately I could not realize them.

Could you inform me about the situation?
Thank you very much
Best regards

Dear Ozden,

The ESAS patch is available here:

http://xmm.esac.esa.int/sas/11.0.0/documentation/releasenotes/xmmsas_11.0.1.shtml

Please read the instruction provided and notice that the patch includes
an update of the ESAS calibration database. Please update SAS and ESAS
calibration database and proceed again (starting after epchain) running
ESAS tasks as indicated in the ESAS Manual.

Also, there is a new version of the ESAS Manual (v4.3), which I
dont know if you have. It only contains minor fixes with respect
to v4.1 or v4.2.
