Subject: Detailed archival observation information

Hello,

I am working on a project that uses a large number of archival XMM observations,
and I have run into an issue with a lot of the data because, after unpacking and
reprocessing with ep_chain/em_chain, the observation turns out to have been
taken with the "calclosed" filter for one or all of pn/MOS1/MOS2. I require
observations that were taken only with the Thin/Medium/Thick filter, but the
XMM-Newton Observation Log, downloaded from VizieR, does not have this
information.

Is there a file somewhere that has more detailed information on all the archival
observations that would allow me to exclude observations not taken with the
Thin/Medium/Thick filters? This would greatly increase the efficiency of our
project.

Thanks,

Nathan Secrest

Hello Nathan,

What you could do is to query the XMM-Newton database using ADQL, for
instance via TOPCAT. Please have a look at the instruction at:
http://nxsa.esac.esa.int/nxsa-web/#tap , and inform us if you
would need some clarification.

Best regards,

Nora
