Subject: Multiple Files From Two Rgsprocs
Full_Name: Sam Cabot
Submission from: (NULL) (128.119.51.64)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am fairly new to data reduction and using SAS but I am currently working with
an observation of LMC-x3, obsid 0120300201. When I run the command:
rgsproc orders='1' bkgcorrect=no withmlambdacolumn=yes > rgsproc.log

It outputs the files:
P0120300201R1S001SRSPEC1001.FIT
P0120300201R1S001BGSPEC1001.FIT
P0120300201R1S001RSPMAT1001.FIT

Later, I run:
rgsproc orders='1' auxgtitables=gti.fits withsrc=yes withdiagoffset=yes
srclabel='LMC X-3' srcstyle=radec srcra=84.734583 srcdec=-64.084167

and output files are:
P0120300201R1S001SRSPEC1003.FIT
P0120300201R1S001BGSPEC1003.FIT
P0120300201R1S001RSPMAT1003.FIT

I would like to create symbolic links for the SRSPEC, BGSPEC, and RSPMAT files
and eventually run the commands:

specgroup spectrumset=[link_name]  mincounts=10  addfilenames=yes
rmfset=[link_name] groupedset=r1_o1_gmc10.fits

specgroup spectrumset=[link_name]  mincounts=10  addfilenames=yes
rmfset=[link_name] groupedset=r1_o1_bgmc10.fits

specgroup spectrumset=[link_name] backgndset=r1_o1_bs.fits minSN=2.
addfilenames=yes rmfset=[link_name] groupedset=r1_o1_gsn2.fits

However, there are multiple versions of each file type (001 and 003). Should I
use just one of the versions and, if so, which one? Or is there a way to output
just one of each?
Thanks.
-Sam.

Hello Sam,

versions 001 and 003 of source, background and response matrix correspond to the
different source coordinates used to create these files. They should be found in
the source list file P0120300201R1S001SRCLI_0000.FIT : 001 corresponds to the
coordinates in the observation proposal while 003 corresponds to some user
provided coordinates (srcra=84.734583 srcdec=-64.084167 in your case).

Sincerely,

Pedro
