Subject: XRPS: How to define observations without the RGS?

Submission from: (NULL) (128.255.34.153)

Dear support team,

How can I define an observation in XRPS with the RGS turned off? The
observations I am trying to define are survey observations without a target in
the center, so there is no point in using the RGS. However, XRPS seems to
require that I define RGS exposures for the entire duration of the
observations.

Regards,
Dirk Pandel

Dear Dr. Pandel,

the RGS exposures are simultaneous with the EPIC exposures at no
expenses for the other instruments, therefore even if the spectra
will be non-interesting for you, they could be interesting for other
people or for calibrations, therefore you should acquire them putting
the RGSs in the default spectroscopy mode.

Best regards,

Nora
