Hi,

I am trying to use calview with SAS v17 to access some information
(specifically, obsID 0803952301 information about encircled energy fraction
on PN CCD 11) and am having some trouble. When I click on View>Encircled
Energy>Encircled Energy(PSF), the command line prints sh: xmgrace: command
not found. Evidently I don't have xmgrace installed. I can't find much of
anything about this in the online documentation except for the page (
https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/xmm-newton/sas-requirements) that points to
needing to download "Grace". However, when I click on the download link (
ftp://plasma-gate.weizmann.ac.il/pub/grace/src/) the website appears to be
inactive. How can I fix this error to work with calview?

Thanks,

Chris

Dear Chris,

For Linux there are binary packages for Grace (xmgrace). To install it from
sources either in Linux or in Mac is quite daunting. The URL to get the xmgrace

source code is through ftp://plasma-gate.weizmann.ac.il/pub/grace, still works.
This must be done with anonymous ftp and passive connection (pass). Otherwise
it does not work. But I insist, to build Grace (xmgrace) from source code is
not recommended at all.

For Mac, the most practical solution now is to install Qtgrace, following the
instructions we have provided in our web page. For Mac ignore any installation
of xmgrace from either Fink or Macports. Both are quite complicated and prone
to failure.
