Subject: Error when correcting light curve with epiclccorr

Submission from: (NULL) (193.147.152.102)

Dear Helpdesk,
I am running SAS-17.0 (xmmsas_20180620_1732-17.0.0) on a MacOS (Darwin-16.7.0
64bit). I was following the thread of extracting light curves at
https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/xmm-newton/sas-thread-timing-gui to extract a
EPIC-PN light curve, but an error occurred when I tried to run epiclccorr to
correct the light curves. I used:

epiclccorr srctslist=pn_source.lc eventlist=pn_evt.fits outset=pn_lccorr.lc \
bkgtslist=pn_bkg.lc withbkgset=yes applyabsolutecorrections=yes,

wherein both pn_source.lc and pn_bkg.lc are binned to 30s. The error message I
got reads:

** epiclccorr: error (attributableNotFound), Could not find attribute with
qualified name pn_bkg.lc:RATE%EXPOSURE in attributable set RATE

It seems that epiclccorr was trying to find an "EXPOSURE" column in pn_bkg.lc
but was not able to find it.

Regards,
Cory

Dear Cory,

I am afraid that I cannot reproduce your problem with epiclccorr.

The error

** epiclccorr: error (attributableNotFound), Could not find attribute with
qualified name pn_bkg.lc:RATE%EXPOSURE in attributable set RATE

means that the keyword "EXPOSURE" is not found in the header of
the extension 'RATE' in the file 'pn_bkg.lc'.

Could you check that this keyword exists in 'pn_bkg.lc', and also
in 'pn_source.lc?

You mention that lightcurves are binned to 30s.

Does it mean that you extracted them directly with this time binning
(in xmmselect), or that you used a time binning of (e.g.) 1 s
and rebinned them later?

If you used a tool outside SAS (for instance ftools) to rebin the light curves,
this can be the reason for the missing keyword.

Rosario Gonzalez-Riestra
