Subject: unable to run epchain
Full_Name: Ritesh Ghosh
Submission from: (NULL) (47.11.4.209)

Hi,

I am trying to analyse some archived Xmm-Newton observations of the object MRK
421. The observation dates are December 01, 2002 and November 14, 2002. The
cifbuild and odfingest commands are working fine and the SAS-related environment
variables set to ccf.cif and SUM.SAS files in the working directory. While
executing the epchain command it is showing the following message: "error
(odffiles), No valid file for IMAGING was found in the ODF directory".
Please let me know what am I doing wrong!

thanks and regards,

Dear Rosario Gonzalez Riestra,

I am very sorry for the late reply.
The observation IDs are as follows:

*0158971201* for the Obs Date: *06 May 2004*
*0158971301* for the Obs Date: *09 November 2005*
*0302180101* for the Obs Date: *29 April 2006*

*Interestingly for all these observations *the size of the downloaded ODF
files are more than 1GB. Other Xmm observations with ODF files around 750MB
are all working fine. I have around 20GB free space in my computer hard
drive and using latest SAS version and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Thanks and regards,
Ritesh Ghosh

Dear Ritesh Ghosh,

In the three observations you list

*0158971201* for the Obs Date: *06 May 2004*
*0158971301* for the Obs Date: *09 November 2005*
*0302180101* for the Obs Date: *29 April 2006*

EPIC-pn was operated in "TIMING" mode.

The default for 'epchain' is IMAGING mode. If you want to process observations
in
TIMING mode, you have to state it explicitly via the parameter 'datamode'

  epchain datamode=TIMING

You may find more usage examples at

http://xmm-tools.cosmos.esa.int/external/sas/current/doc/epchain/node10.html

Regards,

Rosario
