Hi, I've been working on a pipeline to do a large amount of XMM imaging, and
because most of the sources are off-axis I have to use eexpmap to correct for
the vignetting terms. Unfortunately, eexpmap often hangs, in some cases for
hours at a time, for no obvious reason. This was the last terminal output
before eexpmap got hung up, for example:

eexpmap:- eexpmap (eexpmap-4.11.1)  [xmmsas_20170112_1337-16.0.0] started:
2017-10-12T23:15:39.000
eexpmap:- CCF constituents accessed by the calibration server:
CifEntry{EMOS2, LINCOORD, 18,
/home/nsecrest/programs/ccf/EMOS2_LINCOORD_0018.CCF, 1998-01-01T00:00:00.000}
CifEntry{EPN, LINCOORD, 9, /home/nsecrest/programs/ccf/EPN_LINCOORD_0009.CCF,
1998-01-01T00:00:00.000}
CifEntry{RGS2, LINCOORD, 8, /home/nsecrest/programs/ccf/RGS2_LINCOORD_0008.CCF,
1998-01-01T00:00:00.000}
CifEntry{XMM, BORESIGHT, 27, /home/nsecrest/programs/ccf/XMM_BORESIGHT_0027.CCF,
2000-01-01T00:00:00.000}
CifEntry{XMM, MISCDATA, 22, /home/nsecrest/programs/ccf/XMM_MISCDATA_0022.CCF,

CifEntry{XRT2, XAREAEF, 10, /home/nsecrest/programs/ccf/XRT2_XAREAEF_0010.CCF,
2000-01-13T00:00:00.000}

And then it seems to almost freeze. Running the top command tells me that the
CPU is pegged at almost 100% memory usage, but this should be the case for the
(short) amount of time the task takes to complete.

Is there any reason why this behavior might be occurring?

Thanks,

Nathan

Dear Nathan Secrest,

depending on the amount of images and/or degrees of mosaic that you are
analyzing, it might indeed
take a long time and, if the task does not crash or enter in a loop, my first
suggestion would be to be
patient. Can you please quantify the number of images/mosaic degrees to be able
to have an idea?

Thank you
regards
Simone
