Subject: 'xspec' is not working

Hello,

Using the SAS version xmmsas_20160201_1833 I encountered a problem with xspec
that has been already the topic of a previously answered request:

http://xmm2.esac.esa.int/xmmhelp/SASv15.0_Installation?id=78944;user=guest

The problem is that once the SAS are initialized xspec does not find anymore the
OS libraries.

In the above request it is indicated that the solution of the problem can be
found under:

http://xmm2.esac.esa.int/xmmhelp/SASv13.5_Installation?id=73565;user=guest

Unfortunately the above link is not working anymore.

Regards,

Silvia

Dear Silvia,

Find below the answer given in that thread.

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The reason behind the error you get is that SAS, after is initialized, changes
the LD_LIBRARY_PATH list of directories where executables look for shared libs
to put $SAS_DIR/libextra ahead of other, among them the Heasoft $HEASOFT/lib.
xspec and other Heasoft binaries look for shared libraries in such directory.
However, given that xspec was built with the gcc/gfortran of your underlying
OS,
it expects to find a more modern version of libstdc++ and libgfortran shared
libs that those found in $SAS_DIR/libextra.
To fix this problem we suggest users to save both, the libstdc++ and
libgfortran
included in $SAS_DIR/libextra, to whatever and copy there or softlink there the
ones included in /usr/lib. For example, the following commands would make it:

cd $SAS_DIR/libextra
mv libstdc++.so.6.0.10 SAS_13.5.0_libstdc++.so.6.0.10
mv libgfortran.so.3.0.0 SAS_13.5.0_libgfortran.so.3.0.0
rm libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++.so libgfortran.so.3 libgfortran.so
ln -s /usr/lib/libgfortran.so.3.0.0 libgfortran.so.3
ln -s /usr/lib/libgfortran.so.3.0.0 libgfortran.so
ln -s /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.10.X libstdc++.so.6
ln -s /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.10.X libstdc++.so

Please note that in x86_64 the /usr/lib must be replaced by /usr/lib64. Also
note that we have assumed libstdc++.so.6.10.X as the full version id, so please
check it in your computer.
