Hi, specgroup needs to know which XMM instrument is the origin of the input data and looks for it in the INSTRUME keyword in the header of the input spectrum file. From the error description, it seems to complain because such keyword is missing. Pedro

Thank you Pedro! However, the INSTRUMENT keyword seems ok: 0008 INSTRUME EPN String instrument/detector name Moreover, the same command works for the same files on another computer (sas v11.0.0).. Hi, specgroup is designed to work on a spectrum from a single exposure (camera, mode, filter). Then, it will complain about the following missing keywords in the main header of infile.pha (it does not matter if they are present in first extension): INSTRUME DATE-OBS RA_PNT DEC_PNT PA_PNT TELESCOP DATAMODE FILTER so, try to fill in these keywords with some meaningful values to make specgroup to work. But I do not know if the success is guaranteed when the input spectrum is in fact the sum of several spectra. Pedro
