Subject: Final circular for the 4th VILSPA SAS Workshop
X-Loop: xmmhelp@xmm.vilspa.esa.es

Dear Dr. de Castro,

this message contains some final information for the participants to the
4th VILSPA SAS Workshop.

Venue and final program
-----------------------

The Workshop program is available at the following URL:

http://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/external/xmm_user_support/sas_workshop4/Program.shtml

VILSPA has a canteen facility, where Workshop participants can have lunch,
if they wish. A typical 3-course meal costs about 5 Euros.

As Workshop informal dinner will be held on Tuesday, June 8, in San Lorenzo
de El Escorial, starting from 21:00. The foreseen cost is around 25 Euros per
person.

Weather
--------

June is one of the best time of the year to visit the Madrid area. The
weather is normally pleasant, with daytime temperatures around 25 degrees,
and long, fresh nights. San Lorenzo de El Escorial, with its ~1200 meters
altitude, is, however, significantly cooler. Occasionally, May rain may
extend into the beginning of June. The (in)famous hot Madrid summer, with
temperatures higher than 35 degrees all day and night long, starts usually
only at the end of June.

Useful links for the current status of the weather in the Madrid area are:

Transportation
--------------

A shuttle bus service will be available free of charge for the Workshop
participants from the Hotel Los Lanceros (http://www.loslanceros.com/) in San
Lorenzo de El Escorial to VILSPA in the morning, and from VILSPA to hotel in
the afternoon. This service is available also for Workshop participants, who
do not stay at the recommended hotel. The bus schedule is as follows:

- June 8, 09:15: Hotel Los Lanceros - VILSPA
- June 8, 18:00: VILSPA - Hotel Los Lanceros
- June 9, 09:15: Hotel Los Lanceros - VILSPA
- June 9, 18:00: VILSPA - Hotel Los Lanceros
- June 10, 09:15: Hotel Los Lanceros - VILSPA
- June 10, 18:00: VILSPA - Hotel Los Lanceros
- June 11, 09:15: Hotel Los Lanceros - VILSPA
- June 11, 18:00: VILSPA - Moncloa Subway Station

Workshop participants, who do not intend to use this bus service, are kindly
requested to notify it, by sending an e-mail to the XMM-Newton HelpDesk
("xmmhelp@xmm.vilspa.esa.es").

On the last Workshop day (June 11), taxis to the airport can be arranged
upon request, at the participant's expense.

Please, be aware that VILSPA is not easy to access with public transportation.
Refer to the VILSPA access web page for more information:

SAS web pages
-------------

 The SAS web portal:

  http://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/external/xmm_sw_cal/sas_frame.shtml

is the gateway to access an extended suite of web pages, describing SAS
functionalities. A synthetic description of the SAS is available at the
following URL:

  http://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/sas/documentation

The SAS User Guide provides a wider scope description:

http://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/external/xmm_user_support/documentation/sas_usg/USG/index.html

Participants interested in a general introduction to the SAS are referred to
the latter document.
