Dear Help desk,

I am analysing the RGS data with ID=0691570101. I have a problem with rgsfluxer.
I need the fluxed spectrum between 5 and 38 angstrom with 3400 bins. So I
provided the following commands for the RGS1 spectrum::

rgsfluxer pha=P0691570101R1S004SRSPEC1001.FIT
bkg=P0691570101R1S004BGSPEC1001.FIT rmf=P0691570101R1S004RSPMAT1001.FIT
file=Fluxed.FIT bins="3400" min="5" max="38"

But the output file still holds 3600 bins between 4 and 40 angstrom. Same
applies to the RGS2 spectrum. I tried also on other observations and I keep
having the same mistake. I am using: xmmsas_20141104_1833-14.0.0

Thank you in advance,
All the best,

Ciro

Dear Ciro,

To change the default binning, you need to use a new parameter called
"tryspectrumgrid". You have to set it to "no" and then you can rebin and/or
change the min/max. I tried the following and it works:

rgsfluxer tryspectrumgrid=no pha=P0691570101R1S004SRSPEC1001.FIT
bkg=P0691570101R1S004BGSPEC1001.FIT file=Fluxed.FIT min="5" max="38"
bins="3400"

The documentation was incomplete and we have updated it, although it won't be
live until the next patch release.
Let me know if you still have problems.

    Regards,
       Simone

Dear Simone,

Thank you very much! It worked. With the previous SAS releases I did not
have this issue since the default rgsfluxer avoided to automatically
match the SRC and BKG spectra before following my binning prescriptions.

All the best,
Ciro
