Dear colleagues,

Are there plans to develop SAS algorithms and calibration files to reduce OM
grism 
spectra? In the interim, it would be useful to have at least a rough recipee to

relate X-Y detector coordinates to RA & Dec such that one can actually
locate
his/her
favorite source in the Grism image and have a look at it. Do such recipee
exist?

Yes. Our goal is to have a reduction package in SAS at the end of the year.
Initially this will apply only to the spectrum of the target located at the
boresight. At a later stage there will be a reduction for all spectra in the
field of view. There will be a standard reduction and also an interactive tool,
both within SAS. The standard reduction will include extraction of the
spectrum,
wavelength calibration and an initial flux calibration (to be completed when
more
observations of standard stars have been performed).

Do

There is not yet such recipee. However, identifying the sources is very easy
since the orientation of the spectral image is the same than that of the direct
imaging. In other words, the position angle is the same. Therefore the sources
can be identified just looking at the zero orders and taking into account the
P.A. The image of the f.o.v. given by the zero orders is displaced mostly in Y
detector axis (towards lower Y with respect to the direct image). The target
zero
order appears located around X,Y= 1020,340 (UV-grism) and 1175,290 (Vis-grism).
Currently there is an extraction tool under IDL, developed by MSSL, which will
be
made available through the MSSL OM web pages soon. This tool will allow the
user
to interactively locate the spectrum, to extract it and to place a wavelength
scale on it.

Two calibration observations have just been performed and three more are
scheduled in the next weeks to establish the wavelength scale.
