Subject: APOD Oct/29/2001 for a conference poster
Dear Colleagues,

We are preparing a major international symposium on future
instrumentation in optical-to-radio bands, and I would like
to use an image featured on October 29,2001 at the Astronomy
Picture of the Day site for the conference poster. The image
is an artist's illustration of a black hole surrounded by an
accretion disk, and it is jointly credited to XMM-Newton/ESA/
NASA. Robert Nemiroff, who is co-running the APOD site, has
advised me to contact you with regard to permission to
reproduce this image.

I would like hereby to ask for your permission to reproduce
the picture and also inquire about a higher resolution version
of the image for the A3 size poster we would like to produce.

For your information, the conference web page is at
http://www.mpifr-bonn.mpg.de/berlin04/
and the draft version of the poster is at
http://www.mpifr-bonn.mpg.de/berlin04/poster-first.gif

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely,

Andrei Lobanov

Dear Andrei,

sorry for my late reply, but I could not
reach the Project Scientists earlier.

The picture was taken from NASA and therefore
we have not the data rights of it. The Project
Scientists remembered that Christophe Wanjek
was the science journalist responsible for the
story. He works at the Goddart Space Flight
Center. We assume that he has detailed
knowledge about all issues and rights involved.
Please, try to contact him. May you simply
contact the XMM-Newton help-desk of NASA.

Thank you very much in advance
With best regards
Norbert Schartel

Dear Norbert,

Thank you for your reply and for trying to help locating the
authors of the APOD picture we have chosen for our poster.
I will try to contact the XMM-NASA helpdesk and Cristophe
Wanjek.

Best regards,
Andrei
