Hi

I have MOS1 timing mode data of a bright point source. Due to the fact that the
timing mode CCD area is only 100 by 100 pixels there is no way I can extract
background features from it. I am looking to perform spectral analysis so are
there any standard background files for use in such a situation (i.e. for
obtaining background subracted lightcurves in all energy bands and calculating
the spectrum of the background)?

please, have a look at the EPIC status of calibration and data analysis
document which is available from URL
http://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/external/xmm_sw_cal/calib/index.shtml
under link 'EPIC Calibration Status'.

In section 2.2.1 you find info on how to handle source and background for
the MOS timing mode.
