Good day,

I am a student from Columbia University working for Prof. Frederik
Paerels. I am searching for filter-door-CLOSED MOS spectra in order to
extract the particle background from a spectrum I am analysing. Steve Snowden
pointed me to a list of observations on ftp xmm.vilspa.esa.es (folder
/pub/EPIC/CLOSED) with this data; however, the observations on this list were
not available with MOS data from XSA. Bruno Altieri then told me that there
was a new 200ks observation taken with the filter doors closed, and that
this was available from one of your ftp sites. Could you email me the address
of the location of this observation?

Hi Jose,

you can search for CLOSED MOS exposures in the XSA in the following way:

- go to the 'Query Specification' page
- open the 'Exposures' based selection form
- activate in 'Instrument configuration' the 'Non Science Modes/Filter' button
- activate for 'Results Display' the 'Mode Synchronization' button
- select for MOS1 and 2 all modes (and for pn, RGS, OM 'None')
- select for MOS1 and 2 filter 'Closed'
- 'Execute Query'

=> you will get a long list of search results listing MOS Closed filter
exposures
   obtained in any readout mode.

You can download the ODF of any public exposure (PPS products for the CLOSED
exposures do not exist) and process the MOS data e.g. with emproc.

I have not checked if the 200ks exposure Bruno mentioned already made it
into the XSA - but already now there are plenty of CLOSED MOS exposures.
